View Full Version : What shall we name our new baby?
OK ok, well lets not get too attached, its a server after all - but we'd love to know what our clients think it should be called. Once we have enough ideas in the bag, we'll put them all into a poll on this forum and the one with the most votes will win. There may even be a little prize for the person who picked the winning name... so... get your thinking caps on and come up with some interesting names for our new baby! :)
Good luck!

Is it to follow in the Shakespearean theme or something completely different? :)
Whatever you like Jim.... as Dennis has begun to think here, maybe the name "Macbeth" was a bad omen from the start! :)

Hmm, well I've always liked server names all related to each other when there is more than one...
Famous guitarists: Hendrix, Clapton, Vaughan, Gilmour, Squire (the name of my LAN server :) )
Planets: Mercury, Pluto, Jupiter, etc
Rivers: Amazon, Thames, Mississippi, etc
:)
I prefer Delphi - the famous greek oracle..... is there a prize: :)
There will be a little prize yes. :)
characters from classical mythology 8)
star trek aliens
How about a famous woman?
Amelia, Carmen, Cleopatra, Diana, Elizabeth, Jacqueline
You know, I had always been told that one should refer to macb*th as "The Scottish Play", that it was bad luck to refer to it by name? :D
As far as good luck goes, how about:
Scarab (means lucky), not very sexy though!
A red envelope in a Chinese wedding is lucky
'Srecko' in Slovenian means 'lucky'
But perhaps we don't need luck, what we need is:
Good "mojo"
:D
So: Delphi; Andromeda, Athena, Aphrodite, need any more?
Maybe the A's are a good theme.

Ok....seriously. Several people are suggesting themes...I think this is a good idea.
But we are getting rid of Macbeth and keeping Sydney right? And Sydney is named after a city in Australia, so I recommend something like:
New York
London
Paris
Prague
Toronto
Nassau
Athens
Geneva
you get the idea.....
Afraid that's MCHost's server theme -- so I think we have to have something original for Kualo :)
mmm bummer...how did we get Sydney then?
here is my 2 cents... Sepherum.. i belive that is pretty original.
or diablo, DuCkY, Swamplander, Tryptefan, spArKy.
I would call the server Pheonix, rising from the flames.
Just to get back at all the flamers/tolls on the WebHostingTalk forums
I'm starting to think a little more practical regarding the name.
Since our clients will see the name of our baby  in certian circumstances (secure pages, mailman links, when using to upload before domain propagates, etc) perhaps we should use something more generic.
I know, I know....this isn't much fun....but something like "secure" or "server" or "host" .....
Just an idea!
Presumably the dnsaction.com domain will remain the same..... So what about [b:60a27e7c3d]gimme-some[/b:60a27e7c3d] as the server name.
Now if only we could get .baby instead of .com :D :D :D :D

Oh yeah, right....forgot about the dnsaction part! See....I need more sleep!
[b:50f3729c2d]gimme-some[/b:50f3729c2d] works for me!

This is just a suggestion but how about keeping it as Macbeth?
This will sort out part of Ray's mailing list URL issues and also when users FTP in to upload, it will still show macbeth.dnsaction.com saving any "Why is it showing a different name" questions to customers of resellers that are not aware of the server move.

I like Phoenix too.
But I also like Sherlock. For the theme you could include:
Watson, Holmes, Mycroft, Lestrade, Hudson, Baker, etc etc etc.
Dennis (hope I win the prize - I like prizes) :D
