First i do not want to ask in general section since this topic here is a reeller issue.

I need to ask some Qs about the issue...

First of all, if you think this is better, i believe it is better. New server chip is very good, hope it will be more stable.

This is my question:

What i see is we as resellers will modify our nameserver IP numbers since we modify our data center... Right?

So this will probably lead to a bounce in up-to-date databases, i meanloss. Or in other words... Assuming you moved everything in August 7th, we requested our registrarto modify nameserver... They changed on August 8th... It takes 2 days to propogate... Then we lost 3 days DB since all accounts will have resolved macbeth in these 3 days...

Solution

Is it possible to create for all accounts including subdomains a temprorarylink to new server such that

http://www.phptalk.com or http://talk.phptalk.com resolves to http://newservername.dnsaction.com/~phptalkusername etc.

This will automatically fixes the problem....

If i misunderstand something, sorry.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I was going to ask about the server move aswell (I'm all for the idea btw if things are expected to improve):

We will be notified exactly when things are happening won't we? Its just that my client manager script requires a valid IP address (to stop piracy) in order to work. If one isn't found, the order form on my site stops working.

Also, will things be done over a few days to allow for the IP changes to filter through? It would make sense to run both servers at once for a couple of days so any ISP's who haven't got the new IP's yet still see some site (even though it may be slightly older) rather than a 404.

One more thing: just to confirm, [b:e4c113a259]everything[/b:e4c113a259] will transfer over exactly how it was won't it including permissions, databases, users, etc?

Thanks :)

PS Just out of interest, what datacenter was chosen?

Ok, questions answered:

We will be running both servers at the same time to run the new server in, and so that we can transfer the accounts over and ensure that everything is working as you require it to on your sites. Then, you would change your IP's on your nameservers and then all your sites will transfer over to the new server. Once all the sites are on the server have fully transferred, we will be switching off Macbeth.

You will be given full notification, advice and as much help as possible to ensure that this runs as smoothly as possible. We want there to be minimal problems and (in theory) expect absolutely no downtime.

When we do the transfer, everything will transfer, permissions, mysql, cpanel settings -- everything should be exactly as it was on Macbeth.

If you have any other concerns, please let us know.

I don't see why this is solely a re-seller issue, surely it affects everyone who uses the server.

The issues are being discussed at:

http://forums.kualo.com/viewtopic.php?p=921#921

and I think they should all stay there since they affect everybody. People who are not resellers are also business people.

What i ask is simply reseller issue...

Any site on macbeth server need to change NAMESERVER IP number other than a reseller?

There is none!

Not i mean namerserver record of a site, i mean IP number of registered nameservers of reseller main accounts and their propogation...
