Hi

Found you via the VBulletin site - current hosting/server is bring up mysql connect errors - Database error in vBulletin :Link-ID == false, connect failed which looks to be load based issues.

Current AUST vbulletin is just starting, but existing NZ one advertises 1200 businesses/threads=400 uniques/day=around 3gig traffic per month. AU vbulletin advertises 4700 businesses/threads and so should be say 1600 uniques, 12gig traffic per month.

Currently, the site being hit by the bots and causing errors when only 150 uniques/day.

At which stage does the vps become advisable as compared to a plain eBiz account.

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for your enquiry.

It is very hard to give a definitive answer based on site statistics, as every site is different. We host a large number of vBulletin installations, ranging from shared accounts through to dedicated servers. Some of the installations running on dedicated servers are actually smaller than those running on VPS, but the load that they generate are higher. The level of customisation can affect this. Does your current host feel that the loads on the servers causing the MySQL issues are due to your website, or is it just a generally overloaded service?

My advice would be to start off with shared or reseller hosting depending on your requirements, and your resource usage can then be monitored. Should your sites be too load intensive for shared hosting we will let you know, and can discuss alternative options.

I hope that helps... Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any other queries...

Best regards,

Craig.

Currently have had only you respond to my initial question, so thanks.

Current supplier "does not recommend/allow vbulletin on its shared servers". They can't see any load issues, but I still get innundated with mysql error messages. A real pain. Don't have much choice but to leave them, although their email response times have been great.

Just waiting on another host to respond...

Hi,

No problem at all.

I'm surprised to hear that they do not allow vBulletin on their shared servers, as vBulletin uses fewer resources than many other PHP based forum solutions.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Best regards,

Craig.

I so totally agree!!! Especially when I have hacked it for seo - Google for "Search Engine Optimize VBulletin" - lots less url's for the bots and googlemediabot to find.

No response yet, from the other potential host. Their offering means nothing if they have no service :)
