Hi Reddy,
Check out this resource site:

Haven't looked at it in depth myself but it might get you going in the right direction. If you want a top notch company that specializes in search engine position placement then I can recommend this one:
http://searchengineposition.com
They are in my home city of Kelowna, B.C. and are internationally known and highly rated. I guess it also depends on how much you wish to spend to achieve your expected results.
Good Luck!

Reddy,
The google support newsgroup is a good place to start for finding out the ins and out of google. It's only available at:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=google.public.support.general
The best way (other than paying for it) to get top 10 listings is to get as many sites as possible to link to you. Make sure you understand, and make best use, of meta tags too.

I have found these forums helpful:

I have used addme.com several times (basic free submission), and their system works well.
Can't believe I never found this site before:

Check out the forums (right hand side) for loads of info

Another quick tip:
Most search engines rely on one of two directory services to provide entries which have been vetoed by human editors. As a result you should definitely get you and your customers into Zeal.com (you will have to pass a test before you can become a Zeal contributor but it is VERY much worth it in the end) and Dmoz, which you can get to directly from Google.
Also, although it might not be appropriate, it is worth remembering that Google spiders weblogs much more often that non-weblogs because their content changes so regularly. Now I'm not suggesting that you should pretend you're a blog if your not but if you got yourself linked to on a few that would certainly help.
