How did Kualo get their name :?:
A little google search brought about this.
 Kualo is a village situated in Parjang police -station of Kamakhyanagar subdivision, in Dhenkanal district, about 8 km. (5 miles) east of Talchar town and two miles from Parjang. It is 72 km from Dhenkanal, 45 km from Angul. The convenient route is to cross river Brahmani near Talchar by ferry and go by a track, which is motorable with difficulty. Kualo is an old village as known from its antiquities. The name, a corruption of Kodalaka, the head quarters of the Sthamba or Sulki kings of the ninth century, was once a prosperous town.
The antiquites of the village now consist of half a dozen ruined temples and a number of old-time tanks. Although very little remains of the original splendour of the temples, it is not difficult to surmise that the Sulkis like their contemporaries (the Bhanjas of Khiching) were famous builders of temples.
The ruins of the temples are all located in a compact area in the outskirts of the village. The loftiest and most impressive of them is that dedicated to Lord Kanakeswar. It occupies a central position with its face towards the east. To the back of Kanakeswar temple are temples dedicated to Baidyanath and Paschimeswar and to the front of it are those dedicated to Kapileswar and Balukeswar. It is clear that the original plan consisted of these five temples. The four minor temples form four corners of a perfect rectangle, the chief temples of Kanakeswar being in the center, Baidyanath and Paschimeswar temples face each other towards south and north; so is the case with the temples of Balukeswar and Kapileswar. In the area are also found three other Shiva temples , namely, Baneswar, Swapneswar and Siddheswar in their ruined from. The temples of this place, probably with the exception of the Swapneswar temple, had no porch in their front.
Kanakeswar temple
The Kanakeswar temple in its ruined form is about 80 ft. in height, so in its original form it was not less than 100 feet. It has ornamental door frames flanked by the figures of Ganga and Yamuna. As all the sides of the temple are covered by debris, the Parswadevata and sculptures on the walls are not properly visible.
Inside the Garbha(sanctum) of the temple is a huge lingam, carved out of a block of sand stone. It has height of about three feet above the yoni, which itself is over two feet above the ground level.
Swapneswar temple
The Swapneswar temple on the bank of the river Brahmani is in an utterly ruined condition. It is a panchayattana temple of which the four corner shrines are in a reasonably well preserved condition. Its scheme of decoration resembles that of the Parasuramaswar temple of Bhubaneswar. It possibly belongs to the last part of the Sailadbava or the earliest part of the Bahuma epoch.
The temples of Kualo have been declared as protected monuments by the Govt. of India.
I know how the Kualoites got their name! :lookaround:

I don't. Did I miss something here?
I've always wondered where the name Kualo came from and for that matter how it was pronounced?
I do however know where Kualoite (or Kualo-ite as it was originally) came from. Take a look at Christina's post at http://forums.kualo.com/viewtopic.php?t=258
and all will become clear :)

[quote:edbd1b526b]and for that matter how it was pronounced?[/quote:edbd1b526b]
Missed that one. It's pronounced:
Ku - ah - low
Thats about as good as my phonetics get I'm afraid. I imagine most people pronounce it correctly, but I hope that helps anyone who wasn't. :)
I guess the easiest way to put it is to think of a koala bear, and change 'a' for an 'o'. :)
